Cobourg Council – Cobourg Preps for Another Summer

Cobourg is already preparing for another summer, Councillor Emily Chorley told council this week, but not a typical summer.

For example, the parks department usually hires 15 students. This year they have hired nine and may possibly hire three more. Still, they are getting the parks and facilities ready for summer.

The Waterfront Operations Department will be hiring 18 students, and staff are busy planning for things like the May 13-15 boat lift in partnership with the Cobourg Yacht Club.

Though vaccinations continue at the Cobourg Community Centre, it is otherwise closed. But staff still have eight on-line fitness classes that are proving very popular, with 15 to 35 participants each.

Looking ahead to a time when people can gather safely outdoors, Chorley added, they are planning a Fresh Air Fitness program, a nine-week project with classes held in a different neighbourhood park each week.
“A family-friendly environment that will allow local residents to be active and engaged,” she said.
