Armed Robbery In Cobourg

Police are investigating after a armed robbery took place in Cobourg early Monday morning on May 14, 2018.
Cobourg Police have not issued a press release as of 8:45 a.m., but numerous reports to Today’s Northumberland indicate a armed robbery took place at the Shell gas station/Food Mart on Division Street by Densmore Road at approximately 5 a.m.
Unconfirmed reports say to suspects entered the store with guns and demanded cash.
They exited the store and were last seen heading east.
Cobourg Police attended immediately and cordoned off the area, but notified OPP approximately one hour later even though the local detachment is approximately 300 metres from the scene of the crime.
Heavily armed officers including a OPP canine along with members of the Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU) were called to the scene.
The area was still cordoned off at 8:30 a.m. and it’s believed police are awaiting a forensic officer to attend the scene.
The clerk was not physically injured in the robber.
Last week, a convenience store in Colborne was robbed in the early morning hours at approximately the same time. One suspect was arrested within a short time and is facing charges.

 

Cobourg Police Deputy Chief Paul VandeGraaf issued a press release shortly before 9 a.m. that stated:

Subject of Release: Armed Robbery at Shell Gas Station 1154 Division Street, Cobourg

Release Narrative:

On Monday, May 14th, 2018, at approximately 4:40 am, Police responded to a call for an armed robbery at the Shell Gas Station, located at 1154 Division Street in Cobourg. It was reported that two males entered the store and demanded cash and cigarettes. Both suspects were armed with handguns.

The suspects obtained an unknown amount of cash and cigarettes and fled on foot eastbound on Densmore Road.

Cobourg Police are asking for the assistance of the public to identify the two suspects.

Both males are described as:

-White
-16-20 years old
-5’6” – 5’8” tall
-140-155 lbs
-Black face masks

The Cobourg Police will provide an update when further information is obtained.
