Update – OPP Investigating Fatal Fire in Bewdley

On Sunday November 22, 2020 at approximately 6:30 am, members of the Northumberland County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Hamilton Township Fire Department and Northumberland Paramedics, were called to attend a structure fire on Main Street in the village of Bewdley.

The body of a deceased male was located within a small enclosure that was attached to the front of the main residential building where the fire is believed to have been localized to.

The Office of the Fire Marshal was contacted and will be attending to investigate.

The identification of the deceased will not be released until the next of kin has been notified.

The Northumberland OPP Major Crime Unit are currently investigating the incident with the assistance from the Central Region Forensic Identification Services (FIS) and the Office of the Chief Coroner.

The scene is currently being held by the OPP as the circumstances surrounding this incident remain under investigation.
